Rooted Medicine Workshop

Wednesday, October 8th | 5 - 7:30 PM
at Eramosa Herbals

Come learn about medicinal plants while sipping warm tea and getting your hands in the dirt! I’m very excited to host guest herbalist Ember Peters from Mi’kma’ki/Nova Scotia for this hands-on workshop to explore the lessons and potentials of root medicine.

Autumn is a root harvest season on the herb farm. In this workshop, we will explore sustainable and ethical harvesting, plant cultivation through root cuttings, and appropriate medicinal uses for three important medicinal roots: marshmallow, elecampane, and echinacea. We will dig up the plants together, process their roots, enjoy in-depth discussion of each plant’s properties and applications, and make a herbal preparation for you to take home.

Workshop Fee: $25-50 sliding scale. To register, please fill out the form below.

Location
This class takes place at Eramosa Herbals’ one-acre site at the Ignatius Community Farm, just outside of Guelph on Highway 6.

Accessibility
Eramosa Herbals is a short 7-10 min walk from the Loyola House parking lot at the Ignatius Community Farm. We’ll meet in the parking lot and walk in together; those who need to drive in will receive driving directions. The terrain is gently sloped with one short, slightly steep hill. Our site is rustic, with a nearby outhouse, and a hoophouse and market tents for shade and shelter. Classes take place rain or shine, but may be rescheduled in case of dangerous or unpleasant weather.

Towards Reparations and Repair
In acknowledgement of the ongoing theft of Indigenous lands and knowledge, and in solidarity with the preservation and resurgence of traditional knowledge and lifeways, 10% of proceeds from this program will be redistributed to Giwaabamin herb clinic in Tkaronto, Ontario.
